Pragmatics Special Advisor to the Chairman/CEO Anthony M. Valletta 2009 Ellis Island Medal of Honor Recipient
McLean, VA, May 4, 2009 — Pragmatics, Inc. today announced that Special Advisor to the Chairman and CEO Anthony M. Valletta has been selected as a recipient of the 2009 Ellis Island Medal of Honor by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations Foundation, Inc. (NECO) Board of Directors and Selection Committee. Valletta is one of 100 medalists to be honored at a ceremony held on Ellis Island, named for a national symbol of the diveristy of America's people, on May 9. The medal is designed to honor the immigrant experience, as well as individual achievement. It is awarded to U.S. citizens from various ethnic backgrounds who exemplify outstanding qualities in their personal and professional lives while preserving the richness of their heritage.
Valletta came to the United States from Italy at a very young age and became a U.S. citizen in 1962. He had a distinguished 30-year career in the U.S. Army, with 23 years in senior positions in the Department of Defense and at the Pentagon. His last position was Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Command, Control, and Communications, where he reported directly to the Secretary of Defense. Valletta has since spent more than 12 years as a corporate executive in the information technology (IT) industry, where his positions have included Senior Vice President at SRA International, Inc., and his current role as Special Advisor to Pragmatics Chairman and CEO Dr. Long Nguyen.
Dr. Nguyen noted, “Tony is truly deserving of this honor and recognition. He has a deep and lasting appreciation for his heritage and regularly meets with ethnic groups and students to emphasize the importance of hard work, ethics, and honesty, as well as the honor of serving our country. He is a patriotic individual who has served with distinction at the national level in the U.S. government.”
Valletta supports United Service Organizations (USO) and Army Signal Corps Officers’ Club activities, including the Wounded Warrior Project at Walter Reed Hospital and providing care packages to troops overseas. He is a guest speaker at associations and academic institutions across the United States and overseas, and he is active in mentoring activities, speaking about the value of continuing education and service to the nation.
