In Our Community

Serving our country and our communities has been a part of Pragmatics culture since our inception.  During the more than 20 years since our establishment, we have made contributions to a variety of organizations and causes.  These have included raising money for victims of, and families affected by, the 9/11 attacks on the United States and creating a fund to aid those displaced by Hurricane Katrina.  Our CEO and Founder, Dr. Long Nguyen, sponsored a dinner for 250 wounded veterans from Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Other organizations to which Pragmatics has contributed include the Virginia Sheriff’s Association, the Virginia Children’s Fund, and the March of Dimes.

In November 2009, Dr. Long and Kimmy Nguyen made a $5 million donation to George Mason University.  The donation will be used to establish the Long and Kimmy Nguyen Engineering Building, a world-class facility for teaching and research at the Fairfax campus of the prestigious northern Virginia institution.  The Nguyens made the donation to underscore their strong commitment to the university, education, and northern Virginia, where their family resides.

With our continued corporate growth and the passion our employees show for helping others, in 2008 we established the Pragmatics SERVES (supports, encourages, responds, values, energizes, and strengthens) Committee to recommend and review ways that employees can give back to the communities where they live and work, as well as focus on global initiatives.

The committee is the focal point for coordinating the company’s volunteer activities; its mission is to encourage interaction among employees through planning and executing philanthropic activities for charitable and non-profit organizations working to meet human care needs.  Pragmatics SERVES chooses community service activities based on employee interest level, and employee committee members are selected to lead the efforts.  The committee holds monthly meetings and communicates information about upcoming events to all Pragmatics employees.

Pragmatics SERVES has experienced tremendous success, with active participation from employees at the McLean, Virginia, headquarters location; the surrounding Washington, DC, metropolitan area; and the Charlottesville, Virginia, office.  The committee recently partnered with the Salvation Army for a second year to sponsor 100 children for the Angel Tree Program, which provides new clothing and toys for children in need during the holiday season.

Employees take great pride in their efforts and in Pragmatics strong commitment to corporate citizenship.

In our Community

Pragmatics employees and family members participated in the 2008 Walk Now For Autism, a signature fundraising and awareness event for Autism Speaks, an organization committed to the health and well-being of children.  Pragmatics raised over $7,700 for this important cause through its participation in the walk.
